STRICTLY ACCURATE
(To ths Editor.)
Sir, —So much misunderstanding exists in New Zealand about the institutions of England, their age and their history, especially among the younger members of the community, that any form of entertainment which gives a better understanding of such things ia to be welcomed.
' Such an entertainment is provided, to a certain extent, br a popular picture which is now being shown in the city; but where entertainment goes hand in hand with education, it is just as well for the educationaj part to be strictly accurate. In the advertisements for this picture we are told that we shall see, among other things "lower Bridge, where they used to behead Royalty." Now, it is true that executions used to take place in the Tower of London (which is not shown), and it is equally true that the lower Bridge, being close to the lower, is built in a style more or' less in keeping with that great monument of the Middle Ages, but lest any of your readera should think that the bridge j 8 a second Bridge of .Sighs," it r»/ be as well to point out that it was nuilt during last century, and opened in 189-1, towards the close of the reign of Victoria the Good ot whom the greatest of her detractors could hardly suggest that she encouraged the beheading of members of the Royal House.
Perhaps you -ivill be able to find a corner for this note if only f or the benefit oJ those school children whose "howlers" mny be'added to by a too literal reading ot the advertisement in question. I am
