NOISY SYRENS

COMPLAINT TO FIRE BOARD

"A prominent citizen hai complained to me about the syrens on the engines being kept going too much, particularly coming back from fires .at night," said Mr. F. G. Cray at today's meeting of the Wellington Fire Board. "He does not consider it necessary they should be sounded at all on the way back." Superintendent Creeke: "Our in-, structions are to ease down as much as possible, except at crossings." _ Mr. C. J. Norwood: "Suppose an accident occurred when the syren was not going!" Superintendent Creeke said that there had recently been an accident in "Wakefield street, and in the subsequent Court case it had been held that the syren should be kept going both going to. a fire and coming back. Councillor M. F. Luekie: "Probably the Magistrate assumed that it was your duty to get back to the station just as (quickly as going to a fire." No action was taken.
