TWO IMPORTANT CONFERENCES (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) - CHRISTCHURCH, This Day. Two important for the purpose of discussing questions of. vital interest to local bodies of the South Island will be held in Christchurch this week. The first on Wednesday will deal with the operation of the Main Highways Act in the South Island. All the local bodies in the island and also the South Island Motor, Union have been invited to appoint delegates. It is expected that the conference will result in a much better understanding as regards the operation of the Act, and ; will enable several schemes for the improvement ef the highways to be carried into effect.

On Thursday the second conference will bo held. This will concern the future electrical power; supply for Canterbury and North Otago, and will he attended by the Chief Government Electrical Engineer and delegates%from all the power supply authorities in Canterbury and North Otago.
