WELLINGTON RESOLUTION (By Telegraph.) (Special to "The Evening Post.") : " ' . ' DUNEDIN, This Day. The Dunedin Manufacturers' Association laughed heartily when the follow--ing resolution from the Wellington Association was read last night:— j 'That the proposed action of the Government to temporarily abandon immigration from May next will do \m? TZ hl m than g°o<l to the progress oi the Dominion, because the bigger the^ population the less is the National Debt per head. Instead of making the present position \of the unemployed more acute, the Association is of- the opinion that if the right typo of settler is brought out from Home they will give more work and provide everyone with a chance of finding a position." A member: "Would it not be bettor for those coming, in to pay thoir share of the National Debt?" (Laughter.) Mr. Hogg said he was quite in sympathy with the views of the Primo Minister—that it was useless to bring in immigrants when there were so many .unemployed. When the Government gave more adequate support to New Zealand industries work would be found by the manufacturers for the immigrants. If the association did anything about immigration it should pass a motion supporting the Government. Members: "Better to leave it alone." The last suggestion was adopted.
