JUSTICES MEET

♦ ASSISTANCE TO PRISONERS The annual meeting of the Honorary Justices' Association of Wellington was Held last evening, the Mayor (Mr. C. J. B. Norwood) presiding. There was an excellent attendance. Mr. Norwood expressed the pleasure it gave him to once more occupy the chair. He referred to the splendid service rendered by the members, honorary though they were, and said that it was a distinctly praiseworthy thing that sufficient men of standing, whose time was valuable, co-ild be found in all British communities to give up their time to help to keep the machinery of law in working order. He congratulated the members on, the success of the year's activities, and concluded by thanking the association, on behalf of the public, for the fine service rendered in the past. The annual report ana balance-sheet, details cf which have already been published, were read and adopted. _ Speaking to the report, Mr. F. G. Cray, chairman of the council, said that the work of assisting the wives and children of men in prison was going on, and would be extended as funds accumulated. .. Later in the evening, the Registrar .(Mr. I. Salek), referring to the same subject, said that at last the association s activities were beginning to be felt and admired by the citizens. Very ! many cases had been, reported which needed relief, and the association had at all times done its best, advancing money ,to men just out of prison and helping them to get work.
