A CLOSE GAME.

The match between Thorndon and V.M.C.A. was continued at Hutt last Saturday. V.M.C.A. won the toss on the first day and compiled 207 runs for their first innings, while Thorndon made 75 for two wickets down. Kortlang and Phillips continued their partnership on Saturday, and made 58 and 35 not out respectively. After Kortlang was dismissed by Henderson wickets fell for very small scores, and quite a number of "ducks." Ilyder was the only batsman to make a good stand. Thorndon was finally dismissed {or 201, thus failing to equal Y.M.C.A.'s first innings total of 207 by 6 runs. J. Smith ~«d Birch opened for Y.&LC.A. in their

second innings, but were dismissed for a total of 9. A bright partnership was put up by Murphy and Brown. Murphy, playing his usual fast game, hit two 6's and Browne played a solid game throughout, their respective scores, being 02 and 4S. Turner and Henderson seemed on the wa3 r for a good partnership, but when they had put on 42 runs between them stumps" were drawn, making V.M G.A.s score 221 for seven wickets. The day's bowling was not very striking, Turner being the star bowler of the day, taking five wickets for 40 runs. Details: — V.M.C.A. First innings 207 THORNDON. First Innings.
