CHAMPION RINKS

SEATOUN'S VALIANT WIN

By a margin of 26 points to 19 the Seatoun rink skipped by Gilbert yesterday defeated Loivry'a Kelburn rink in the champion of champions final, played on the Victoria Club's green.

For the first half-a-dozen heads the Seatoun rink was fighting a stern chase, but by dint of a magnificent effort to get 5 when he was already lying 2 on the ninth head, Gilbert brought the score to 12-all, although Lowry took out one Seatoun bowl with a running shot. Kelburn got into the lead again, but Gilbert took some daring risks, which came off thanks to his excellent judgment; and at the eighteenth head he had a lead of 3. On the nineteenth head he scored 2, and as a drive of Lowry's in the endeavour to kill the twentieth head left Gilbert with the second shot, Lowry'a task was hopeless, as he wanted 7 to tie and 8 to win. He therefore retired, the score being Seatoun 26, Kelburn 19.,

Mr. S. M. Stone (president of the centre and a member of the Seatoun Club) congratulated the winners, and especially the skip, Gilbert. He said that it was the first time that Seatoun had secured the honour, and was very encouraging to the young clubs. Kelburn had come a good second, and they already had many honours on the wall. He spoke highly of the condition of the Victoria green, and thanked the umpire, Mr. D. C. Innes, for his excellent control of the game.
