MARKED MORAL EFFECTS

The situation in Shanghai is more tranquil, and Press reports, state that the precautionary military measures taken by the British have had marked moral effects. Major-General Duncan, Commander-in-Chief of the Defence Force dispatched to China to protect the lives and persons of British nationals in Shanghai, arrived yesterday on the troopship Megautie, together with his general staff and two infantry battalions.
