EXCELLENT IMPRESSION

SHANGHAI, 26th February. Troop trains continue to arrive. The staff is expected to-night.

Tho situation in the settlement and immediately outside is quiet. The British troops stationed here

have created an excellent impression. The Chinese have been disillusioned from the belief that the soldiers loot and oppress them, and grudgingly acknowledge that they are now secure from the rabble of which their own troops are largely composed. The First Bedford and Hertford ana the Second Border Regiments have arrived.
