HOSPITAL BOARD

' CIVIC LEAGUE TICKET TWO SITTING MEMBERS RETIRING A well-attended meeting of the council of the Wellington Civic League was held on Thursday evening, when the chief business was the selection of the league's ticket for tho Hospital and Charitable Aid Board. The meeting had nineteen names before it, the required number for a full ticket being fourteen. As a preliminary the standing and work of tho present members of the boar,d was discussed, and many expressions of appreciation of the service^ rendered were forthcoming. Two members, the Eev. J. Kennedy Elliott and Mr. F. 11. Bakewell, declined re-nomination, whidi notifications were received with regret. It was the opinion of the meeting that the u-™iaining sitting members were well qualified for their offices, and that their names should again appear on the ticket. Begret was'also expressed, in View of the qualifications of several others who offered their services, that the number had to be restricted to fourteen. After extended deliberation the following ticket was agreed upon:— The Eev. H. Van Stavercn. C. M. Luke. „ r F. Castle. G. Petherick; F. Bennett. D. Campbell. AY. Appleton; - J. 11. Helliwell. E. Vine. 11. A. Parkinson. T. H. Gill. Mrs. A. M'Vicar. Mrs. K. Preston. Mrs. E. Moore. : - The candidates, other than sitting 1 members are Messrs. Parkinson and I Gill and Mesdames .Mooro and Preston. | Of those who were not, selected sevi eral have not previously figured in pubI lie life, and the hope was expressed that the support accorded them would be an inducement to them to offer their services'for this and other offices in the future. All those placed upon the list havc^given public service in one I way or another, and that fact no doubt weighed with the meeting in making its decision. j The selection of candidates for the City Council and Harbour Board will be made shortly, being deferred\in order thatt the fullest consideration might be given the matter. 1 A considerably larger number of names has already been received for the council and Harbour Board than was .received in respect of the Hospital Board. /
