PICNICS

About 1200 attended the annual picnic at Maidstone Park on Saturday of the combined ™* B rales.. comprising the Painters' Union, Plumbers Union, Plasterers 1 Union, General Labourers Union, and Carpenters and Joiners Union. Gollin and Co the selling agent 3, took place at Trentham and was largely attended. The members of the various departmental staffs, with their 'wives and families and friends made up a big party numbering 9SO. An 'energetic committee arranged a lengthy programme of sports events. The entries for every race were large, and every competitor was a "trier." The many children present were well catered for in the sports programme. Favoured by beautiful weather, the third annual picnic of the staff of Messrs. E W Mills and Co., Ltd., was held recently, when over 100 adults and children were motored oy charabancs to Fahautanul, and spent a most enjoyable day. Jessep; men, Mr. Bremner Under weather mdltions that were ideal the annual picnic of the Island Bay School was held at Maldstoue Park last Thursday, when 100 scholars and parents enjoyed themselves to the full. The infant classes held races under the supervision of Miss Altchson (headmistress), assisted by the teachers, arid the tiny tots were not forgotten with toys. The prizes won by scholars of the bis school were presented by Mr. Flanagan (chairman of committee).
