JUNIOR CRICKET

The Canterbury Cricket Association has accepted the 16th ana 17th March as the dates for the Brabin Shield match, to be played at "Wellington. The teams will be composed of junior players under twenty-one years of age. The recent tour of a Wellington junior team, organised by Mr. L. J. Bra'bin, was thoroughly enjoyed by those who participated. In addition to the matches, at Hamilton and at Auckland, the team met a Te Awamutu eleven, captained by M. Barnett, a former Wellington player. The game was very keenly contested, and resulted in a tie, each side compiling 87 runs. During the trip to Te Awamutu, the visitors were the guests of the local club on a motor tour to Arapuni, via Orakau and Pukeatua, the return journey being made via Horahora and Cambridge. At a function after the match Mr. Brabin, a member of the Management Committee of the Wellington Cricket Association, stated that the W.C.A. had done everything possible to promote' the trip, and he was confident that the tourists would be better cricketers as a result of their experience. He hoped that some at least would develop into representative players. . They had been chosen with that object. The stay in Te Awamutu had been extremely pleasant, thanks to the hospitality of the local cricket club.

During the match at Auckland, Mr. L. J. Brabin presented a cup to the respective captains (Kissling, Auckland, and C. Owen, Wellington) as a memento of the occasion, the match being the first official one between the juniors of Auckland and Wellington. On behalf of the Wellington team, the captain handed to Mr. Brabin a-fountain pen as a mark of appreciation of his services as manager.
