The match between .Thorndon and Wellington on No. 2 wicket at the Basin Reserve was keenly contested. Batting first, Thorndon made 218, the main contributors being Roberts, Phillips, Gibson, and Bull. This total was a little too much for Wellington, although Airey set his side well on the way with a fine score of 74. Hyder, however, got amongst the other batsmen, and with the exception of Whitwell none of them were able to produce many runs. Finally Wellington were disposed of for 178, Hyder having taken six wickets for 50 runs. In their second innings Thorndon lost four wickets for 43 runs before stumps were drawn. O'Connor (six for 41) and Cousins (three for 23 and three for 20) were the successful Wellington bowlers. Details: — THORNDON. ' First Innings. • E. Roberts, c Monkhouse, ~b O'Connor 40 A. W. Playing on No. 1 wicket at the Basin Reserve, and V.M.C.A. provided a bright display of cricket, with J. Lamason on one side and D. Patrick on the other showing splendid form with the bat. During the morning session, .V.M.C.A. had made 201, to which total Latnason contributed 94 in forcing style. Midland, in reply, made fair headway until Patrick came on the scene, and it was then that their score received a big lift. Patrick went for the bowling with vigour, and he rattled on the runs in • great style, eventually reaching his century. At the end of the innings he was unbeaten with 117, including eighteen" fours and two sixes. Doneghue had given Midland a good start, and Baker, Hutchings (2), and Dind assisted well. It was Patrick's great knock, however, which enabled Midland to win. Batting a second time, V.M.C.A. lost three wickets for 125 runs, J. Lamason once again batting attractively.
