DAIRY PRODUCE POSITION

The New Zealand Dairy Produce Board has received the following cablegram from the London office of the board, dated 22nd January:—

"Butter—Prices unaltered. Australian, salted L 166s to 170s; Australian, unsalted, 170s to 1745; stored, 162s to 1645. Argentine, 156s to 160s. Dutch unsalted, 188s to 1925. Danish, 1765.

"F.o.b. Copenhagen price now advanced 172s to 174s and cleared.

"Market remains quiet, new season's best, but last two days, showed improved demand. Anticipate continued improvement. Considerable sale stored, round 1645. Retail prices unchanged. France, Germany, markets unchanged. "Total New Zealand, Australian; and Argentine butter afloat 20th January, 420,000 compared with 699,000 last year.

"Cheese—New Zealand.prices unchanged; Market firm, with steady demand. Australian finest coloured, 93s to 945. Stocks practically cleared. Canadian finest white and coloured, 96s to 100s. Demand steady. English finest farmers, 108s to 112s. Good demand. Retail prices unchanged.

"New Zealand and Australian. cheese afloat 20th January, shows 50,000 crates less same date 1926."

The board has also received the following cable advice from its agent in Canada, dated 22nd January:—"Butter, New York, 47% cents (ls^ ll%d). Statistical position improving. • Montreal. 41% cents (Is 8%d); San Francisco, 49 cents (2s o%d). Cheese —Montreal 19% cents (9%d). Market firm." ■ .• ■ ■

The High Commissioner's produce cablegram for the week shows U itter and cheese prices as follow:—

New Zealand Control Board minimum prices are: Finest, 174s per cwt (Is 6%d per lb); first grade. 172s per cwt (Is OHd per lb). ' AustralianSalted, 166s to 170s per cwt ((Is 5%d to Is 6Jid per lb); exceptional, 172s per cwt (Is 6%d per lb); unsalted, 170s to 174s per cwt (Is 6Hd to Is '6%d per lb); other qualities, 146s to 164s per cwt (Is 3%d to Is 5%d per lb).
