MAN DROWNED

CAUGHT BY BIG WAVE

(By Telegraph.—Press Association.)

DARG-AVILLE, This Day. Two men, Edward O'Neill, a storekeeper, of Donnelly's Crossing, and Thomas Leigh, stationmaster, went on a fishing excursion to Maunganui Bluff on Sunday. While they were fishing off the rocks a huge wave came up and washed both oS. Leigh managed to struggle ashore, but his companion was not seen again, and his body has not been recovered.

The deceased was a married man, about 40 years of age, with a wife and family of four young children. He was particularly well-known in this district, and had filled a number of responsible positions. The Bluff is a particularly dangerous spot when the sea is rough for fishing. Several people have lost their lives there.
