FIRES IN THE COUNTRY
THREE FARM HOMES LOST.

PALMERSTON N., This Day. Since Sunday there have been three fires on farms near Palmerston North, two of them- involving .the occupants jin narrow escapes. The first was'reported yesterday from Ashhurst. "' Another occurred at the Kop'ane soldiers' settlement, where Mr. D. S. Coulter's four-roomed house was destroyed while ho was spending the evening, with his . neighbours. .. ... ■ The third occurred near Bainesse yesterday, a six-roomed house occupied- by Mr and Mrs..A. E. Corley and their eight children being completely destroyed. All the whole family 'were asleen at the time, and no warning was heard until the house was a mass of flames They escaped with, difficulty,- saving only such clothing as could be snatched up m the hurried retreat. Thg fire started in the washhouse at the rear of the ■■.dwelling: .■■■.■■■'■-■ '
