PBOTEIST AGAINST IMPORTATION.

OHAKUNE, This Day

A representative meeting of sawmill owners, employees, and .business interests met at Ohakuno to discuss the importations of American softwoods. Tho gravity of the situation was stressed by the Mayors of Kaetihi and Ohakune, and .remedies were advocated. The moeting recommended tho total prohibition of imported timber, and an amendment to the local -body bylaws permitting tho freer use of 0.8. timber in buildings. The millers guaranteed that no advantage would be taken of the protection to increase the prices to the consumer. The meeting is a third of a series hold at Pokaka, Rnetihi, and Ohakune. Resolutions have been forwarded to the Ministers concerned. Committees were elected to protect the interests of the 10,000 workers who are threatened with unemployment.
