GROCERS PRICE-CUTTING.
A pronounced feature in th» Auckland grocery trade just at present is the amount of cutting that 13 going on, remarks the "Herald." Some lines are being retailed lit well under the wholesale prices, and there is some uneasiness as to how long this will last, as well as the ultimate outcome. It is thought in some Auckland trade quarters that there will be a reduction in the number of retail grocers soon after the holidays, and that this may be effected only at considerable loss. This applies particularly to the outer districts, where grocers have opened up In numbers apparently in excess of requirements, and in excess of the number who can pay the rent and make a living.
