METAL WORKERS' AWARD
ASSISTANTS ifiIOVIDBD FOR,
The Wellington Industrial District Metalworkers' Assistants' Award to come into force on 27th December, 1926, and to continue to 30th June, 1928, wu filed in the Arbitration? Court yesterday. A 44-hours week is provided for, with tima and a: half rates of pay for the first four hours of overtime and thereafter double time. A majority of the Court decided to adhere to the flat rate basis of wages as. tbat. had been agreed upon ■ for a number of years. Mr. Scdtt did not agree to. the rate:of wages fixed by the award, and was of the opinion that the workers covered should have been placed pn the same footing as similar workers in other districts. The Court desired to again point out that the scope of the award was, in the main, restricted to firms undertaking general engineering work, as distinct from purely manufacturing work.
