"ANYTHING BUT FAIR"

——♦

MOTORISTS AND PROPERTY-

OWNERS.

The Wellington Automobile Club's proposal to establish camping places in the district for the convenience of visiting motorists was referred to at the meeting of the Makara County Council to-day. The county'clerk (Mr. W. L. Beech) reported that he had attended the club's meeting and had pointed out that the council held no reserves of any size, except a few very small ones. He had suggested that the club should approach the councillors. The chairman (Mr. "W. E. Windley) said that, as a rule, the property-own-ers were treated anything but fairly by motorists. "Some people do not appreciate what is a fair thing," he said. "Taking motorists as a body, however, they are quite prepared to show every consideration." A councillor remarked that a party of motorists obtained permission to use his property at Porirua some years ago, and departed laden with ferns. Other ferns were torn up by the roots and thrown about. "If they would only leave the native shrubs alone,'' he said, "they are welcome to the accommodation. ''
