Lively interest is being displayed in the contest between Purdy and M'Carthy on Thursday evening. This will be Purdy's first appearance against a topnotch performer, and on his showing his friends will bo able to judge of his prospects if lie decides to 'travel afield in search of experience. With four excellent preliminaries promised, the tournament, which is the last of the teason, should be one of the best of a very successful year's operations. The box plan will close on Thursday afternoon.
