AMATEUR ATHLETICS
NEXT SATUEDAY'S MEETING.
Some of the finest athletic talent in the Dominion will be seen at the Basin Eeserve next Saturday, when the Wellington A.A. Club will hold a sports meeting in conjunction with its annual road race for cyclists. The big event for cyclists is to start and finish at the Basin Eeserve. It has drawn a large entry, including the local cracks and Grose and Day, the New Zealand champions from Canterbury. Among other special features will be the contests between the representatives of the ladies' athletic clubs of Gisborne and Wellington. Tho Gisborne ladies' team for tho relay race had a try-out last evening, covering 440 yds in 53see. The team will arrive in Wellington on Thursday, and arrangements have been mado to give the visitors a reception at the rooms of Gamble and Cread on Friday afternoon at 3 o'clock. At this function the Mayor and tho Mayoress (Mr. and Mrs. Norwood) will be present. Saturday's sports programme includes the races for the Blundell Cups, and a walking race for veterans in which some of tho best-known athletes of former days are likely to appear.
