AUSTRALIAN OIL WELLS
REPORT OF GEOLOGICAL YEY(Received 19th November, 2 p.m.) MELBOURNE, This Day., In connection with a statement made by the Director of Geological Survey in reference to the South Australian oil'wells, the field superintendent, after' consultation with the directors, ' has issued a statement in which, he says: "In refutation of the reports recently circulated as to the absence of mineral oil in our bore at Caroline, I definitely state that I have proved the existence of crude petroleum in the bore. Its presence has been demonstrated to many people, including visiting directors, but for the unexpected intrusion of water in the bore we would before this have been producers'of crude oil, probably on a commercial scale. This is my definite opinion as a petroleum engineer of many years' experience." He adds that his opinion is backed by two other well-known experts.
