PROFITABLE BUSINESS
COLONIAL SUGAR COMPANY.

At the half-yearly meeting of the Colonial Sugar Company the report shows that the net profits in Australia were £.254,124 for the six months ended 30th September, while the net earnings in New Zealand and Fiji were £154,320. Compared with the previous half-year, the Australian profits increased by £53,563, and thot« in New Zealand and Fiji decreased by £41,223. A dividend and bonus of 12^ per cent, for the year was declared, absorbing £304,687. The sum of £.100,000 was added to reserve, and £.3756 carried forward. Regarding Fiji, the chairman mentioned that the company had secured two more properties in order to ccn» solidate the position. One of ths pur> chases covered land owned by the Penang Company, containing the only other sugar mill in Fiji. Drought had seriously nfCected both this and next year's Fiji crops.
