NO MACHINE-GUNS

NEW BRITAIN PUNITIVE

EXPEDITION.

(United Press Association.—Copyright.)

(Received sth November, noon.)

MELBOURNE, This Day.

The Minister of Home Territories (Senator G. F. Pearce) states that the statement that the punitive expedition in connection with the New Britain murders is armed with machine-guns is unwarranted. It would be entirely in conflict with the administration of native affairs to dispatch machine-guns for punitive purposes. The Department would take tho utmost measures necessary to discover and bring to justice the guilty parties, but they would be tried under laws applicable to their cases.
