HUTT VALLEY POWER BOARD

The fortnightly meeting of the Hutt Valley Electric Power Board was held yesterday. Present: Mr. A. J. M'Curdy (chairman), and Messrs. A. J. Hobbs, G. M'Namara, H. W. Lawrence, W. H. P. Barber, E. Windley, H. Jay, S. Blackley, and A. Walker. A proposed scheme for superannuation was referred to the executive for a report. A request for compensation was made by a person who had suffered through a fire on his premises, alleged to have been caused by a faulty installation. It was decided to deny any liability on the part of the board. Tho board's engineer was instructed to report on the matter. On the motion of Mr. Blackley, a previous resolution not to ask for exemption for the board from the electrical works award was rescinded, and j the board resolved to mako application for exemption. The engineer, Mr. E. Biekerstaff, reported tuat Ohariu line was now poled, and the Tri / ham Camp line had been poled to pick, up eighteen consumers previously supplied by the Defence Department. . The current was turned on to Horokiwi Valley line. The number of consumers connected up to date was 5004, against 2820 at November, 1925. The connected load up to date was 13,077 k.w., against 7159 k.w. last November. There were now 304 electric ranges, 36 cow plants, and 99 water heaters connected. The units purchased for October were 457,270, being an increase of 57 per cent, over October, 1925. The maximum demand for the week ended 10th October was on 7th October at 7.30 p.m., being an increase of 76 per cent, over the highest for the similar week in 1925. It was decided to claim against the Hutt River Board for the cost of replacing a pole washed away by the river, it was alleged, through the action of the board. The board agreed to allow the City Council to still serve its quarries and tho city abattoirs, and in exchange for this privilege the board is to have the right of serving a portion of the Porirua road within the City Council area.
