FINE OF £5 IMPOSED,
Failure to take the proper precautions before going over M'Kay's railway crossing at Paekakariki in hit motor-car was admitted by a middleaged man, Henry Collett, in the Magistrate 's Court to-day. Mr. P. S. K. Macassey, who appeared for the Railway Department, stated that the fireman and enginedriver had said that the defendant passed over the crossing just fifty yards in -front of the engine. The engine-driver, Mr. Macassey added, had sounded his whistle. Collett said he had not heard the whistle. His view was obstructed, and he did not know the road.
