BAND CONTEST

SUCCESS ASSURED.

A meeting of the Wellington Band Con* test Committee was held last evening, Mr. H. D. Bennett presiding over a full attend* ance of members. The secretary or. th« North Island Band Association wrote in reply to a request from the committee to be allowed to hold a C grade contest stating that such request could not be granted. The association also intimated that Mr. Halliwell had accepted the appointment as adjudicator. The secretary stated that the special march for the A grade bands in the quickstep, composed by Mr. Trussell, had been received, and was now ready for distribution. It was resolved that the march be copyrighted, and that" applications be invited for the purchase of the copyright. The Wellington Rugby Union wrote granting the use of the Athletic Park for the quickstep. The secretary reported that entries closed on Monday, Ist November, with a total of 35 bands, as follows: —A grade: St. Kilda (Dunedin), Pahnerston North Municipal, Wanganui Garrison, Greymouth Municipal, Wellington Tramways Band, Christchurch Municipal, Ist Canterbury Mounted Rifles (Ashburton), Woolston Band, Ist Battalion Southland Regimental, Port Nicholson Silver, Queen Alexandra's Band (Wanganui), Kaikorai Band (Dunedin). B grade: Miramar Band, Oamaru Muni* cipal, sth Mounted Rifles (Oamaru), Onehunga Citizens', Petone Central, New Plymouth Citizens', Hamilton Municipal, Auckland Watersiders', Stratford Citizens', Port Auckland, Hastings Citizen*', Invercargill Civic, Dannevirke Municipal, Dunedin Tramways, Taranaki Regimental, Nelson Garrison, Masterton Municipal, Jupp's Silver Band (Wellington), Hawer* Municipal Band,' Ist Battalion Regimental (Wellington), Temperance Guards (Auckland), Gisborne City, and Central Mission Band (Wellington). There;are also 22 entries for the Hymn Test. The contest will be held at the Town Hall from 21st to 26th February, 1927^ and success is now assured.
