BREACH OF AN AWARD

A claim to recover a penalty of £]0 for a breach of the Northern Restaurant and Tearoom Employees' Award was brought by the Inspector of Awards (Mr. W. Mountjoy) against D. Rattray. proprietor of the Central Dining Rooms (Mr. Douglas Jackson), in the Magistrate's Court yesterday afternoon. The claim was that the defendant employed Charles Taraey in his kitchen and failed to allow him a holiday of twenty-four consecutive hours during the period from 29th September to sth October, 1926, inclusive. After hearing argument, Mr. E. Page said he thought a breach of the award had been established and fined the defendant 10s. A similar claim against Tomey for failing to take the twenty-four hours consecutive holiday was dismissed as trivial.
