MANAWATU GORGE
LANDSLIDE SLUICED INTO RIVER
(By Telegraph.—Press Association.)
AUCKLAND, 4th November. Mr. Casey, Divisional Railway Superintendent, returned to Auckland this morning after directing operations at the landslide in the Manawatu Gorge. Mr. Casey says the slip occurred between No. 1 and No. 2 tunnels, and twelve thousand yards of loose rock fell from the hillside. Owing to the danger in removing the debris from the top of the Blip, the engineers laid a lead of pipes for some distance up the gorge, and used a head of water to shift the loose rock into tho river.
