PERSONAL MATTERS
The Minister of Lands (the Hon. A. D. M'Leod) returned from the Wairarapa this morning. The Minister of Internal Affairs (the Hon. B. F. Bollard) will leave for Christchureh to-night and expects to return to Wellington on Wednesday morning. Dr. S. H. Schoefleld, of Ashjurton, arrived from the South this morning. Captain C. N. Keyne, 8.N., has been appointed honorary Naval aide-de-camp on, the staff of the Governor-General. Engineer-Lieutenant-Commander C. Marchant, 8.N.8. (New Zealand Division), has been appointed by the Gov-ernor-General to be temporary EngineerCommander. Mr. L. A. Abletfc, first assistant subeditor of the Christchureh "Press," has been appointed editor of the '' Hawera Star" in place of Mr. J. H. Hall, who has resigned in order to take an appointment on a metropolitan paper. The many friends of Mr. Elsdon Best will regret to hear that he was accidentally knocked over by a motor-car on the Hutt road on Wednesday morning, and sustained injuries which, although not serious, will necessitate his remaining at his home for probably a week. He was.about to cross the Hutt road to take the tramcar at the Thorndon quay terminus, and waited while two cars passed, and then, as the way'seemed clear, he started to cross when another car overtook him and knocked him down. The driver stopped and conveyed him to his home, where medical aid was called. It was found that although no bones were broken or internal injury sustained the concussion had been severe. The funer.al of the , late Mr. Peter MacKenzie took place yesterday at Karori, and was largely attended. The late Mr. MacKenzie came to New .Zealand over thirty-five years ago with his family, and settled in Otago, where they lived for about oigh'; yoars. Then Mr. MacKenzie was appointed to the position of superintendent of tho Home for Aged Needy in Wellington, and after filling that position for twentyfive years he retired about two years ago. Mr. MacKenzie, who had reached the advanced age of ninety years, is survived by two sons and several daughters. Mrs. MacKenzie, who was matron at the Home for Aged Needy, died about twelvo years ago. At the funeral, which was conducted by tho Bey. W. Shirer, the trustees of the Home for Aged Needy were represented by the chairman (Mr. George Petheriak), Mrs. B. Hirst, Messrs. W. J. Helyer, F. J. Evans, and G. F. Judd, secretary.
