ONE-LEGGED MAN SERIOUSLY BUENT.

CHBISTCHUBCH, This Day. Awakening to find his bed on fire yesterday, a one-legged man, J. Duke, of North Brighton,, had a' narrow escape from death. Duke, who resides in. a small cottago, managed to get out and rouse his next-door neighbour, J. Wilkinson, who sent for a doctor. First aid was given to Duke, who was terribly burned about the body, and was taken to the hospital. His condition is serious. The fire was extinguished and the building was saved. It is believed that Duke was smoking in bed and fell asleep.
