TARIFF COMMISSION
MANUFACTURERS' VIEWPOINT
SYMPATHY AND SUP.POBT WANTED.
(By Tclearaph.) (Special to "The Evening Poit.")
DITNEDIN, This Day. At a meeting of the Dunedin Manufacturers' Association the president, Mr. Hogg, referring to the Tariff Commission, to sit next year, said: "I believe a great tariff bogy has been created, because the spirit of the NewZealand Manufacturers' Federation is that the manufacturers of New Zealand are not asking for a high tariff. In fact, one could say from the reports we have had that it is very doubtful whether 50 per cent, of the manufacturers are going to ask for an increase at all.'" Tho manufacturers were out for efficiency in their own manufacturing and for strong educational methods and propaganda, as well as -the sympathy and support of tho New Zealand buying public. Those things would ba placed "before the Commission, which would consider the interests of the importers, the manufacturers, and the farmers, and would sco that no injustice W£i3 done to any particular interest. The question of the best means of putting the manufacturers' claims before the Commission was discussed, and it was decided to pake arrangement* to appoint a Dominion organiser.
