Joseph Gray, a second offender for drunkenness, who did not appear in the Magistrate's Court to-day to answer the charge, was fined the amount of his bail, £1, by Mr. E. Page, S.M. "I'm almost sure I bought a ticket, but I must have lost it," was the explanation of Charles Parker (45), who pleaded guilty to charges of drunkenness and of travelling from Otaki to Thorndon in a train yesterday without paying the fare. "He was drunk when he arrived here last night, arid he was arrested,'' said Senior-Sergeant Lander. For being drunk, Parker was convicted and discharged, and on the second charge he was fined £1, with witness's expenses Bs, and ordered to pay the amount of the fare. Default was fixed at seven days' imprisonment. Frederick Henry Burton , (35) was charged with haying been found in a motor-car while in a state of intoxication. The case was adjourned to 10 o'clock to-morrow morning. Bail in the sum of £20 was allowed.
