ST. HILDA'S, ISLAND PAY
St. Hilda's sale of work was opened on Tuesday afternoon in the Parish Hall by Mrs. Norwood. Special efforts had been made by the Ladies' Guild with the result that there was a very large display of goods, and the decorating committee had turned the hall into a wonderland, each stall being decorated with gay bunting and paper flowers. A feature was,, a mystic cave with a witch, etc. Mrs. 'Norwood, who was accompanied by Miss Norwood, was received by the vicar and Mrs. Blathwayt. Mrs. Norwood, in declaring the sale of work open, congratulated the Ladies' Guild on the excellence of the display, and added that she knew from personal experience the amount of work entailed in the preparation of the goods., The Mayoress visited each stall, and made various purchases. The stall holders and officers were:—Fancy, plain, and produce, Ladies' Guild members; cake stall, Mrs. Wing, Mrs. Churchill; book and jumble stall, Mrs. Atkinson; flower and plant stall, Mrs. Sanders, Miss Wylie; sweets, Mrs. Colley, Mrs. C. Proctor, Mrs. Bar- ' nard, Miss Mottram; ice cream and soft drinks, Mrs. Taylor, Miss Beck, Misses Taylor; tea room, Girl Guides; Xmas iree, Miss Lilian M[Kenzie; mystic cave, Miss Howe and assistants; side shows, Mr. A. N. Palmer, Mr. E. R. Glass, Mr. Barnard, Master Cecil Palmer, Mr. Hart; secretary, Mr. E. J. Smith; treasurer, Mr. W. Hutchings. In the evening an excellent entertainment was given by Miss Walshe's pupils, a conjurer, Miss Una Smith, the Misses Cooney, and Mr. Smith. A jumble gale will be held in St. Andrew's Hall, The Terrace, on Friday, sth November. Messrs. Child and Co. will sell five ■ rooms of furniture at the Central Auction Rooms, 50, Cuba street, on Friday, at 2 p.m.
