THE PRIVY COUNCIL
SCOPE OF APPELLATE WORK DOMINION'S DIVERGENT VIEWS. (Received 4tli November, 3 p.m.) LONDON, 3rd November. The Inter-Imperial Relations Committee of the Imperial Conference has held several protracted meetings this week. The predominant topic has been the Privy Council and the scope of its appellate work. Opinions are stated to have been most divergent, not only among the Dominions, }sil- among the parties of one Dominion. For instance, while some Canadians are favourable to the abolition of Dominions appeals to the Privy Council, French-Canadians regard such a tribunal as the strangest and most inviolate safeguard. It is understood that -mention was made in this category of Australia's problems of Federal and State statutes, involving constitutional interpretations; also of the obligation to obtain from the High Court leave to appeal.
