A BUS COMEDY
AUCKLAND SITUATION
"LAWYERS WILL BENEFIT."
(By Telegraph.) (Special te "The Evening Post.") AUCKLAND, This Day. Under the caption "A Bus Comedy," last night's '' Star says: "A, distinctly Gilbertian situation has arisen on the northern side of the harbour over the bus licensing question. A certain company, plying between Devonport and Takapuna, ignoring the Takapuna licensing authority, applied to the I Auckland City Council for a license. Its I ground for doing so was that Devonport is in the City's Council licensing area. The City Council granted it, so we understand, what amounts to permission to ply, and its buses are running. We are informed that or.c of the Takapuna Borough Council's officials, acting with more zeal? than discretion, attempted to interfere with this running. It may be suggested that this is a matter that should be left to the Courts, and it looks as if the Courts will be kept busy. There is no need for anyone to get excited over it. The Takapuna Council, we understand, denies the right of these buses to ply in its district with authority from another licensing authority. "We have ho desire to express an opinion on a matter that is possibly causing the lawyers some hard thought, but without prejudicing the case in any way we may remark that the Parliament that made Takapuna a licensing aut'icrity and yet left Devonport in the Auckland area, should not be in the lwti surprised if trouble follows, Parliiiricnt, however, was merely concerned i.lout getting home. One thing is prcttv certain —the lawyers will benefit."'
