MAPS FOR THE VERY RICH
The map of. the heavens which, begun .thirty years ago, is now approaching completion—the Greenwich- section is now finished—:will show over four million stars down to the fourteenth magnitude (says the "Daily Chronicle"). Observatories all over the world have co-operated in the work, and the cost has been proportionate to so stupendous a task, Many amateur astronomers would. like to possess a copy of the complete map, but few could afford to buy it. Each copy would necessitate the. reproduction of 20,000 plates, and some idea, of .the cost, of a copy may be imagined when it is said that even beforo the war it cost Is to reproduce one plate,, and that probably tho cost is double now. Those who are willing to pay well over f 1000, for the complete map may be in a position to order a copy, ,but unless such orders justify 'the reproduction on a commercial basis, only sufficient will be printed to supply tho world's big observatories and certain scientific libra-
