MOTOR-BUS LAW

THE NEW LEGISLATION

AUCKLAND'S NORTH SHORE

SERVICE

TAKAPUNA COMPANY'S RESPON-

SIBILITIES.

(By Telegraph.) (Special to "The Evening Post.")

AUCKLAND, This Day

When the Takapuna Borough Council, licensing authority for the No. 2 district under the Omnibus Traffic Act, met last night to deal with the applications for licenses, it was reported that thero was still no word from the United Service Company. This being so, the board assumed that the yellow buses fpuu jCupssnx uo Siirauni aq qou pyno.u therefore addressed itself to the consideration of tho provision for such matters as the carriage of the Belmont school children to the Devonport Manual School. The application with respect to the four bus licenses of the Takapuna Tramways and Ferry Company gave rise to a considerable amount of discussion.

Tho Mayor asked whether in the ovoiit of the yellow buses not running on Tuesday, as he presumed they would not in view of the heavy penalties that would be incurred, it would not be possible for the Tramway Company to hire buses and drivers from Auckland.

The managing director said that the board could rest assured that, if the company's own rolling stock proved insufficient, it would resort to every possible means to obtain buses and drivers.

The Mayor: "Very well, we quite understand that, if tho licenses are. granted, it will be tho duty of the company to make full provision for the carriage of tho whole of tho borough's traffic."

A resolution granting the licenses was thon agreed to.

Mr. Gaudin; "May I ask what will be the procedure if we find that the yellow buses are running to-morrow J"

The Mayor: "It is wise not to meet the trouble half-way."

The borough solicitor said that he had already advised tho Mayor as to the procedure in that contingency. The United Service Company's silence was ominous, as yellow buses were running over tho prohibited territory to-day, but the "Herald," in a footnote to its report of the meeting, states that it understood that the United Service Company had an application for a license to run services through the Devonport and Takapuna districts before the City Motor Omnibus Licensing Committee (No. 1 authority) yesterday.
