NEGLIGENT DRIVING
CHARGE AGAINST MOTORIST.

AUCKLAND, This Day
John James O'Hanloii pleaded not guilty to a charge of having, on 18th September, negligently driven a motorcar on the Great South road, thereby causing tho death of Bernard Housiaux. Tho inquest was held simultaneously. The house surgeon at the Auckland Hospital stated that tha deceased was admitted on tho evoning of 18th September suffering from eye and head injuries. An operation was performed, and the patient made good progress until 28th September, when he showed symptoms of inoningitis, from which he died on the following day. After lengthy evidence had been heard, the Coroner returned a verdk/. that death was caused by moningitis following injuries. Although he considered the tail light on the bus struck by O'Honlon'a car was not iv tho right place, he did not think it led to any confusion. As a Coroner, he must find that the car in which the deceased was a passenger had boon negligently driven by O'Hanlon, who- reserved his defence, and was committed for trial. Bail was allowed to the accused, who is to report weekly to the police.
