TAURANGA, This Day.

The Union Company's steamer Kaituna, while entering tho harbour at 5 o'clock yesterday aftornoon, grounded on a small sandy beach on the seaward sido of Stony Point beacon at Mount Maunganui. Sho got off shortly afterwards under her own power, but befora sho had steerage way tho flood tide grounded her on a sandbank further inside the harbour. A launch from the to^n went down and ran out the anchor astern to prevent the ship going further up with the flood tide. Her engines were kept going, and she was refloated about 10 o'clock, and was berthed at Mount Maunganui. At the time of the accident the vessel was drawing 14ft forward and 16ft aft. She called here to land cargo and coal. She waa apparently not damaged.
