LACK OF INTEREST
Strong criticism of the apathy and indifference shown by the ratepayers was made on Tuesday by Mr. 0. Carwell Cooke at last night's meeting of the Wadestown. and Highland Park Progressive Association. While considering that the Wadestown ratepayers were^not receiving a return commensurate with the Tates they paid, Mr. Cooke said: "In my opinion, much of the cause of complaint in respect to civic affairs is Sue to apathy on the part of ratepayers themselves. In no phase of public life do ratepayers maintain suoh indifference with regard to the payment of moneys as they exhibit in relation to the expenditure of rates contributed by them; never except in spasms do they concern themselves as to the economic disposition of the vast funds placed in the hands of the council and staff. Defects in city administration Undoubtedly exist; but before atone throwing to any extent can be justified on the part of ratepayers they must arise and do their fair share in assisting to promote reform, and not be eontmt-jfkh clasoji|fls-^riis^;
