MEETING OF THE WELLINGTON BRANCH.

A meeting of the Wellington Acclimatisation Society tvas held last evening, Mr. ,L/ O. H. Tripp prcsidiug-. The Department, of Tourist and Health Resorts wrote enclosing the new regulations regarding the taking of trout in the Botorua-acclimatisation district, gazetted'on.•loth. September. The l«tter stated it would''be'rioted that a special license had now to be taken out for the Kotorua district, and that no person may ■catch more than 25 trout per day and iishing between f) p.m. rind 4 a.m. was prohibited. A letter was received from the private secretary of the Governor-General, thanking the society for having sent His Excellency a complimentary fishing license. The Otago - Acclimatisation Society notified that their man who had been, at Lake Hawoa collecting rainbow trout eggs said that the run of fish had nut been so good, this season, and that his traps had been submerged onco with ;i. flood, and most of the fish had got away. For this reason, it was regretted that the society would not be able to send the TVollington Society any more eggs this season than the 75,000 sent on 6th October. The Ekctnhuna branch of the Now Zealand Farmers' Union wrote bringing under the notice of the society the considerable damage caused by hares to ■growing crops, and the rapid increase of the pest during the last few years. The letter asked that the Wellington Society should bring before headquarters the necessity of removing the restriction for the destruction of the pest. It was decided to reply that individual permits could be obtained when applied for, but that when the restrictions were-lifted in the Manawatu district, farmers-were so pested with trespassers that it was asked that the regulations be applied again. The question of the Wellington 'Acclimatisation Society's Research Fellowship was mentioned, and after consideration was postponed till after further discussion with the Victoria College Council.
