A PEOHIBITION AND ITS EFFECT
(By Telegraph.)'
(Special to "The Evening Post.")
AUCKLAND, This Day.
The profit on the "big three" art union organised by the Auckland Lawn Tennis Association and the Maungakiekio Golf Club is estimated at £16,----000. The accounts are not yet complete, and tho profit has to bo merged with that from the much less successful "golden treasure" art union', organised by the Auckland" Rugby Union and Cricket Association. The latter is to be drawn on Friday, night, and is expected to yield a net profit of £4000, So that the four bodies should net £5000 each.
The comparatively, poor results from the second art union are said to be the result of tho prohibition by the Minister of Internal Affairs of the "broadcasting" of application forms for tickets or for books of tickets through the post. In tho case of the "big three," where tho system was used, the gross proceeds attributed to the "broadcasting" were about £17,000. The four sports bodies which divide the revenue will find ready employment for the welcome additions to theil funds. Tho cricket and Rugby authorities have commitments to meet at Eden Park.- The Maungakiekio Golf Club has earmarked the profit for ground! improvements,- and the Tennis Association has certain debentures to liquidate and has in mind a scheme for futurf development.
