IN RELIEF OF RENT
At last night's meeting of the Lower Hutt Borough Council; the Mayor (Mr. W. T. Strand) ; moved that the council should contribute £60 to the Plunket Society and £30 to the dental clinic.
Councillor Watkins seconded the motion,1 and said he wanted to make his attitude clear on this matter. When the buildings were erected it was agreed that the occupants should pay sufficient rent to meet interest and principal. He objected to allowing the rooms to be free of rent, but he did not wish to hamper these societies, and would vote for the donation. In his opinion the Pliinket rooms and dental clinic was of even greater importance than education, and should be looked after by the State.
Councillor' Meldrum supported the motion, and said he considered that the children from. private schools should be admitted to the. dental clinic.
Councillor Hunt stated that the admission of children from private schools was a matte): for the Government.
The motion was carried,
