ENTERTAINING PROGRAMME
NEW ZEALAND TEST RECITAL,
The audiences bad much to interest them at the musical and elocutionary competitions at the Town Hall yesterday, for tho programme was a varied and entertaining one. Tho dancing «vonts wore a big attraction, and some excellent performances were witnessed. Much interest was taken also in the New Zealand test recital, which was won by Miss Anita Winkcl, of Dunedin. Tho judge said that Miss Winkel's work waa most commendable. The following were the awards: — DAY SESSION. Reading at Sight (boyß under 10). —Errol Muir (Lyall Bay), 77 points, 1; Itomild Foster (Christchurch), 70 points, 2; Lester Holler (Dunedin), 75 points, 3. Recitation (the Competitions Society's Scholarship); girls, 12 to 16 years; (a) "The Builders." —The recalls in this section will not be announced until tho "own selection" has been heard, later on in the competitions. Character Dance (9 and under 12 yoars).— Phyllis Oliver (Wellington), 78 points, 1; Jean Dnnliam (Uosonoath), and Jackie Harris (Wellington), 77 points, equal.
Action Song (12 to 16 years).—Kathleen Chappie (Chrißtchurch), 88 points, 1; Doreen Saunders (Wellington), 80 points, 2; Dulcio Orrne (Wellington), 83 points, 3.
Now Zealand Test Recital (ladies). —Miss Anita Winker (Dunedin), 180 points, 1; Minn May M'Donald (Wellington), 177 poinU, 2; Mrs. T. L. Sperring (Wanganui), 174 points, 3. Mr. Hopkins said Mint Mine Wiiikel, in tiic final, gave an excellent visualisation of the final picture, and, in fact, all through. Her action in relation to the candlesticks was very fine indeed. It was most commendable work, he added. Misß M'Donald's performance in the final was a very good interpretation, although a little studied in parts, but a praiseworthy rendering. Mrs. Sperring nlro gave a very good interpretation of the poem, artistic and finished.

Vocal Duet (men), own selection. —Mr. R W. Robbins (Wellington) and Mr. G. A. Roberts (Wellington), "The Battle Eve," 88 points, 1.
