FIRES

CAMBRIDGE, This Day.
A fire 1 occurred at Pukeroro, near Cambridge, in the early hours of this morning, totally destroying the residence of Mr. C. Charlton. The occupants escaped in their night attire, and nothing was saved. The building, a two-story one, is one of the oldest in the district. It was insured, but details are not yet available. ' A five-roomed house and contents, owned and occupied by Mr. J. Hall and situated in Woburn street, was totally destroyed by fire at 2 a.m. to-day. The insurance details are not yet available.
Slight damage was done by fire shortly after 7 o'clock last evening to the meter-room in the Wellington City Council's electrical department's test-ing-room in Harris street, a two-storied brick building. A "banking board" was destroyed and the coiling was damaged. The City Fire Brigade, which' was called at 7.8 o'clock, had no trouble in suppressing the outbreak, the cause of which is not known.
