THREATENED WITH A RAZOR
WIFE'S ALLEGATIONS AGAINST
HUSBAND,

AUCKLAND, 27th August.
An application for separation and maintenance orders by Priscilla Melia Armstrong against; Harold Armstrong was this morning refused by Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M.,;in the Magistrate's Court. A maintenance, order for £1a week was made. The wife stated that she had been working all her married life, and that for the past fourteen months she had been managing a fish shop in Pitt street. Her husband had been living with (her, doing nothing, and for the past eleven . months she . had received no money from him. On 20th July he had come into her bedroom with a razor and had threatened to cut her throat. She went into the kitchen, but he followed her and then sharpened tho razor. The proprietor of the shop (Mr. Smith) had ordered him off the premises, but he had been back several times asking for" money. Cross-examined by Mr. Adams (counsel for defendant), witness said that previous to the separation she had' gone tut dancing three nights a week, but that she had not done so since.
Questioned in regard to the alleged razor episode, Armstrong denied that he had threatened his wife, but said that he had a razor in his pocket. Mr. Hunt: "I don't carry a razor in my pocket."
Witness stated that he was taking it to a man who wanted to have a shave. He further stated that ; his wife had once attempted to cut her throat with a razor, but that he had taken it from her. ■.-'•■'
Mr. Hunt: "So you thought you would do it for her?"
Asked if he took the razor out in ,the bedroom, defendant stated that he, did not. It was correct that Smith had ordered him off the premises. He had at times gone back to, try and make it up with his wife, but he.had never on any occasion asked for money. The Magistrate refused to make a separation order, but made a maintenance order for £1 a week.
