AUCKLAND, This Day.
In the Billiards, Ltd., Shield tournament E. V. Roberts beat L. Roger* by 500 to 323. TEe best breaks were: Roberts (average 9), 43, 33, 68, 33, 21, 37, 25, 33, 21; Rogers, 20, 46, 22, 21, 35. M. D. White meets Roberts in the final of 1000 up, played in two sessions of 500, commencing this evening and concluding to-morrow.
The semi-final games in the inter-club amateur championship took place at Billiards, Ltd., showrooms last evening. The first game was between Tucker (Federal Club) and Bromley (Public Service). Bromley played a splendid game, and with great judgment kept ahead of Tucker throughout. At one stage he was nearly 100 points in the lead, making his 300 points when Tucker's score was 278. It was a popular win, and the audience showed its appreciation in a hearty manner. The winner's best breaks were 37, 36, 36, 28. Tucker's best was one of 20. The second game was between Spencer (Federal Club) and Duncan (R.S.A.). These players were very evenly matched in the early stages of the game, Spencer leading at the first and second hundred. Duncan was not up to his usual form, and was unable to settle down. Spencer, with a number of useful breaks, reached his 300 points when Duncan's score was 225. The winner's best breaks were 35, 33, 27, 20, 22. Duncan's best was one of 25.
The final, 500 pointa up, between Bromley and Spencer, will be played to-night.
