MOTOR-CYCLE CONTESTS

Although not favoured with a fine afternoon, quite a large number of motorcyclists participated in last Saturday 1* speed judging contest. A twenty-four mile course, including the Queen's Drive, Happy Valley, Brooklyn, and Karori, was ridden, and each rider had to complete the circuit at a set speed, the use of speedometers and watches not being allowed. Some remarkable averages were maintained, the first competitors being not more than one mile per hour out in the speed accomplished, the results being:— E. Tait, 1; B. W. Mills, 2; W. Keayes, 3. The club's grass hill climb course at Karori is now in order, and as soon as the weather becomes suitable, competitions will be held. This form of competition is now exceedingly popular in England and America, as many as 80,000 spectators being present at some of the climbs. As the club's course is situated in ideal surroundings, and as those riders who have already tried the hill are most enthusiastic about it, the opening competition is looked forward to with keenness.
